Agri Tourism
Agri Tourism
Agritourism is a tool that closes the gap between consumers and farmers. It allows farmers to receive additional income to optimize their operations effectively while providing consumers an opportunity to learn about farming operations and culture. It is a bidirectional and mutually beneficial instrument that generates community and connection. It creates a fertile environment to exchange ideas and promote tolerance and empathy.
The Monteverde area
The main agricultural activities in the area are shade-grown coffee production, dairy farming and small-scale subsistence agriculture. In this regard, the Tropical Agroforestry Institute offers to visiting student groups, guests and the general public not only agritourism activities at the Institute´s farm but also educational visits to neighboring farms in the area. These local farmers are striving to transform their operations into sustainable agroecosystems that support biodiversity conservation and the provisioning of ecosystem services.
